Off with her hair

2008 November 29

The last time I had my hair significantly shorter than about 500 cm was in 1996, when a team of four hairdressers with combs and scissors were unable to destroy a knot the rough circumference of a flattened snail at the back of my head. Their only possible recourse was to cut my hair short, but after it grew again I retained a more or less fringeless, highly flickable, generally unmanagable mass of wavy locks resistant to straightening and the smoothening properties of most forms of shampoo and conditioner. So last Wednesday I walked into the same hairdresser I’ve used since I was five and demanded it be chopped off, with two stipulations: don’t make me look like a boy (ewwwww), and don’t make my side fringe look emo. Please.

Bye bye, Hair

It was, coincidentally, my high school’s Formal (that’s “prom” to you USians, only less cliched) that night, in which we ate, danced, posed, laughed at people getting manhandled out of the building etc etc.

Jess and Kath: awwwwwwww ;)

Isnt Cameron a happy drunk?

Isn't Cameron a happy drunk?

Though this excitement was not to be outdone by the ride home, in which my wastedly-giggly former teachers sang to Devo and Missile King’s ‘Cheesecake Song’ (exacerbating my bitterness at missing out on cheesecake for dessert) and threatened to run into the recycling bins of genteel, leafy suburban homes. By the end of it all I was just happy to be lying in bed, bodily intact (though I can’t say the same for my wits). But isn’t that Northcote High School all over.

The manhandling was mainly perpetrated by that highly suss security guard with the bulbous nose and the dangerous hair.

His hair wasn’t as dangerous as JJ’s, though X)

Got some empirical evidence for that claim there Aviva?

Great haircut. I’ve never understood long hair, it looks so uncomfortable and impracticle. According to a drunk Mr Norman though, I need to try things I think I won’t like (with the possible ecception of extreme spinal pain), so maybe I’ll grow long hair at some point.

Reuben, I think you’ll find that 100% of surveys on the matter of who has the best hair at Northcote found it was JJ. If that’s what you meant by dangerous then there’s your evidence.

100% of surveys Oskar? Not so; we voted for Stephanie Moncur. Though personally I would have voted for Kyprianou (ironic really, seeing as he has no hair).

There has only been one survey, as far as I know. Each table’s vote is not it’s own survey. For the record though, my table pretty much voted Nick Chow for everything.

I voted for Steph too, though the year-round winner was definitely JJ. But really, Reuben, you should know by now that me and empirical just don’t hang out.

    Thanks for beclowning me, Oskar.

Aviva, you should get to know your inner-empirical; it might come handy one day.
