Don’t Look So Surprised

The next time I go to a Cantonese-style restaurant in a Zhongshan shopping mall, I will believe the menu when it says “curried fruit”, I will believe Yun when she says the dish I ordered contains curry, and I will believe my eyes when I see that the dish’s corresponding Chinese name has 咖喱 (ga li, i.e. curry) in it.

Because if I don’t I am liable to end up with another hollowed out loaf of bread filled with different types of melon swimming in, you guessed it, curry.

At least I got to wash it down with a plastic tankard of corn and pumpkin juice (albeit a day later).

Did you actually try to eat it?

Yes, and my stomach still turns at the mere thought of it. Yun tried some and thought the curry was good but the melon wasn’t, and I thought it was the other way around.

    Okay, I’ll bite.

What did you think it was going to be?

Hel: uh…not curry? (I was in kind of a daze and didn’t believe the restaurant’s chefs would dare put fruit and curry together. Should have known better).
